Riyadh Province The city

Riyadh, driven properly.

Fifteen municipalities and more than seven million people, spread wide across the Najd plateau. Here is how the city moves, and where a chauffeur earns his place in it.

Riyadh, in detail

Getting around Riyadh

Riyadh got a metro in December 2024. Six lines, 83 stations, 176 kilometres. Line 4 runs the airport terminals to the King Abdullah Financial District in about thirty minutes, and Line 1 runs the length of Olaya Street. It is a genuine change to the city.

It has not made Riyadh a walking city. The distances are long, the summer is punishing, and the roads were built for cars. A metro line helps if your day starts and ends near a station. Four appointments in four districts is the day a chauffeur is for.

The map also hides how much the time of day matters. The same run between Olaya and the financial district is a quarter of an hour at ten in the morning and considerably more at six. We plan around it rather than discover it.

Where you will actually be going

Business lands in three places. Olaya, for the hotels and the commercial spine under Kingdom Centre and Al Faisaliah. The King Abdullah Financial District, north-west, for banking and the newer headquarters. And the Diplomatic Quarter, west along the wadi, for embassies and government, where access is controlled.

Everything else is spread between them. Al Malaz and the old centre for Masmak Fortress and the National Museum. Hittin, Al Nakheel and As Sulimaniyah for the residential compounds. Diriyah to the north-west, where At-Turaif is the reason most visitors take an evening off.

Past the ring road there is a second set of destinations no metro reaches: the Edge of the World about two hours north-west, the Red Sand Dunes east, and Qiddiya forty-five kilometres west along the Tuwaiq escarpment.

Riyadh Season, and the rest of the year

From autumn into spring, Riyadh Season puts a calendar over the city. Boulevard City runs most nights, Soundstorm takes a weekend, and Diriyah holds its own programme. All of them create the same problem: tens of thousands of people leaving within the same hour, on one approach road.

The answer is a drop-off point agreed before you set off and a chauffeur who stays reachable, so the return leg is a phone call rather than a queue. We book both ends of an event night at the same time for exactly this reason.

Summer is the other season worth planning around. Between June and September the middle of the day is no time to be standing at a kerb. The car is brought cooled to the door, a small thing eleven months of the year and not a small thing in July.

Four ways we drive Riyadh

An airport transfer is one job with a flight attached: we watch the aircraft, meet you inside the terminal, and take you to one address. A chauffeur service is a person and a car held for a stretch of time, by the hour or the day.

A car service is the single point-to-point run, quoted as one number before you travel. A limousine service is the same car and the same chauffeur turned towards an occasion, where the arrival is part of the point.

If the trip does not fit any of them, send the plan and we will say what does, before you confirm anything.

Flight tracked from departure, a chauffeur waiting inside the terminal with your name, and sixty minutes of waiting built into every airport quote.

  • Car Service in Riyadh

One address to another, quoted as a single all-inclusive number before you travel. No meter running in traffic, no surge because it is a Thursday night.

  • Limousine Service in Riyadh

For the evenings where the car is part of the occasion. One arrival or twenty, run to one schedule by people who have done it before.

Before you ask Riyadh

Asked, answered.

For some journeys, yes. Line 4 runs the airport terminals to the King Abdullah Financial District in about thirty minutes, and Line 1 covers Olaya Street. It works well when your day begins and ends near a station. It works badly with luggage, in a working day that crosses several districts, or in the middle of a Riyadh summer.

About 35 kilometres north of the centre. Reckon on around 35 minutes to Olaya or the financial district and closer to 45 to the Diplomatic Quarter, with the time of day mattering more than the distance.

Yes. Access is controlled and the approach is not obvious the first time, which is the argument for a chauffeur who has driven it before rather than one following a map. Tell us the embassy or the building when you book.

Yes. Both are day trips from Riyadh rather than city runs, and the last stretch to the Edge of the World is unsurfaced, so it is an SUV job. We quote them as a full-day hire with the chauffeur waiting rather than as a one-way transfer.

On call 24 hours. Event nights are worth booking both legs of at once, because the difficulty at Boulevard City or Soundstorm is never getting there, it is leaving.
